Brief Profile: Dr. Chandan Kumar B earned his Master’s degree from Kuvempu University, Shimoga in 2008 and Ph.D. from Karnatak University, Dharwad in 2015. His doctoral research mainly focused on understanding the genesis and the geodynamic setting of metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Dharwar-Shimoga greenstone belt of Western Dharwar Craton, using petrographic and petrochemical data. He joined CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad as Research Associate in 2015 and worked there for a brief period of time. Later, he joined Department of Studies in Geology, Karnatak University as Teaching Assistant where he taught Archaean Geology and Petrology to postgraduate students. He has qualified CSIR-UGC NET in Earth Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences in 2010 and Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) for Lectureship in Earth Sciences in 2014. He is a Fellow of Geological Society of India and a Member of Geochemical Society. In July 2016, he joined Central University of Kerala as Assistant Professor in Department of Geology.

He is a practicing Geologist, whose research interest is in exploring terrains of geological interest for economic mineral deposits. He uses the rock archives to locate the ore bodies and to understand their genesis and evolution through time. Delineating the geometry of surfacial and subsurfacial orebodies and representing them in 2D and 3D structural and geological maps is part of his work. His projects are predominantly field based that employs geological, geophysical, geochemical, remote sensing and GIS techniques to generate genetic and exploratory models of ore bodies. Occasionally, his research also focuses on the study of (1) magmas, continental growth and tectonics through time; (2) interaction between tectonics, climate and erosion. Furthermore, he offers consultancy services in mining, disaster management and mineral/groundwater exploration. Currently, he is heading the Ore Research and Exploration (ORE) Group at Central University of Kerala, a research group  working on base metal deposits of Orissa, mineral potential of Western Ghats and petrogenesis of mafic and felsic rock units of Archean greenstone belts of Western Dharwar Craton.
