Brief Profile: Dr. Sijin Kumar obtained his Master’s degree in Geology from Kannur University with gold medal and Ph.D. from CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Goa. Dr. Sijin Kumar was working as Assistant Professor at Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Geology, Govt. College Kasaragod since 2007 and joined CUK on Aug. 2016. Before that he was working as Scientific Officer-C at Dept. of Atomic Energy, Atomic Mineral Directorate, Hyderabad. He received prestigious UGC Raman Fellowship for postdoctoral research to work with Prof. Steven Clemens at Brown University, USA (2014-2015). He also awarded a short-term FLAIR Research Fellowship to work at GEOMAR, Kiel, Germany. Dr. Kumar research interests focuses on late Quaternary Indian monsoon variability and paleoceanography by using microfossils (Pteropods, planktonic and benthic foraminifera), and geochemical proxies (stable isotopes and trace metal chemistry of carbonate shells). Understanding the causes and mechanisms of past fluctuations in the ocean and atmosphere, and how such information can help us anticipate future changes by the analysis of climate model simulations.

He is a Fellow of Geological Society of India and a former Member of Board of Studies of Kannur University. He also served as Chairman, Board of Examiners (M.Sc. and B.Sc. Geology) Kannur University. Dr. Sijin Kumar has published more than 13 research articles in high impact peer reviewed international journals (QSR, Paleo-3, Marine Geology, Marine Micropaleontology, Nature Scientific reports, Boreas etc.) and six articles in national journals and proceedings. He also presented his research works in seven international conference/workshops held at Germany, U.S.A, Spain, Netherlands, Bhutan and Nepal. Dr. Kumar has also received two Best Research Paper Awards (2012 and 2013) for his paper presentations in the International Conferences held at IITM, Pune.
